We are proud and excited to announce that we are starting a new international adventure at the American School!

For the next two years American Elementary School in Gdynia will take part in an EU-funded Erasmus+ project called “Sense your City, Taste its Sights” (KA229) in partnership with three other schools and their communities, in Greece, Portugal and Spain.

The main idea of this project is for students to use all their senses (taste, sight, touch, hearing, smell) to get to know their own and other European cities and their cultural heritage through their own activities and by sharing and working with students from the other partner schools. Together, the four partner schools Poland, Spain, Greece and Portugal will be working on many tasks for two years, including:

►creating a glossary of useful phrases for each country and learning each other’s pronunciations,
►creating a board game that teaches about the cultural heritage of the four coastal European cities involved in the project,
►getting to know dishes typical of each country and learning how to prepare them,
►reflecting together on the importance of the sea for each of the partner cities,
►taking part in an international Christmas carol concert together,
►experiencing traditional folk dances characteristic of each of the partner countries.

Included in the project, a small group of our students will travel to each of the three partner schools for shared work activities and cultural exchange. The trip will be to Barcelos in Portugal, Tarragona in Spain and Agios Nikolaos in Greece. In return, we will host 18 students from the partner schools in Poland.

The Erasmus+ project manager at our school is Agnieszka Langowska, and the team leader for the “Sense Your City ” project is art teacher Rob Garrett.

We invite anyone in the school community who is interested in supporting or participating in the project to let us know – you are welcome!
